Eid Gondu is a long practiced Maldivian tradition that marks the beginning of Eid celebrations.
In the final days of Ramadan, the islanders gather wooden logs and oshi from nearby uninhabited islands, dragging them back to create the "Eid Gondu," a large structure that requires skill and teamwork to build. On the day before Eid, the islanders collects coconut leaves in preparation for the event.
At dawn on Eid, the Gondu is set aflame, signaling the start of the Eid celebrations to neighboring islands.
